The best poem of 2006

This poem was nominated by UN as the best poem of 2006, Written by an
African Kid

When I born, I black
When I grow up, I black
When I go in Sun, I black
When I scared, I black
When I sick, I black
And
when I die, I still
black

And you white fellow
When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you
yellow
When you sick, you green
And when! You die , you gray

And you calling me colored?

Was this poem really written in 2006 and by a kid? Because I had learnt this poem during my French class in secondary school, around year 2000-2003 (I forgot which year). From what I know, the poem was originally written in French. I searched through the internet and I found the poem ‘L’homme de couleur’ (man of colour) by Leopold Sedar Senghor, a Senegalese poet and the first president of Senegal. If you translate this poem into English, the meaning is almost exactly the same like the above poem.
